When I attended my first combined clinic appointment in October at 10 weeks pregnant, it was such a relief to see Vicky(specialist midwife) in the appointment. A familiar, warm, kind, welcoming face. I spoke very open and honestly about my fears of going down the same road with this pregnancy, the anxiety this was causing and the white coat syndrome that I have had since my first pregnancy. Vicky was absolutely amazing at addressing my concerns and putting measures in place to provide me with points of contact and reassurance throughout my pregnancy. Vicky loaned me a BP monitor so that I could do at home readings to closely monitor my blood pressure and alleviate the concerns I had about high BP readings in the hospital due to white coat syndrome. She provided me with some dip sticks for protein in my urine testing in the event of my BP raising outside of 140/90 which again have given me peace of mind. Vicky explained the blood test that can be completed to check for likelihood of preeclampsia if my BP goes up. Since that appointment Vicky has checked in with me once a month to see how I am doing and answer any questions that I may have. I cannot thank Vicky enough for doing this as it has made me feel so much calmer throughout my pregnancy. She has excellent people skills, listens to how you are feeling and as demonstrated above takes action on this. She is always attentive, answers any questions and I know I can reach out to her on email if I have any concerns. I went in to this pregnancy full of fear and anxiety and Vicky has played a huge part in calming my nerves and has been an amazing support.
